About Georgia

Georgia is a serif font created in 1993 by Matthew Carter.

Georgia is a serif typeface designed in 1993 by Matthew Carter and hinted by Tom Rickner for the Microsoft Corporation. It was intended for clarity on a computer monitor even at small sizes, partially thanks to a large x-height. Georgia shares a proportion with Scotch Roman a typeface popular in the 19th century but relative to most serif designs, especially many designed for body text like Times New Roman, it features a larger x-height that makes it look larger at equivalent sizes. Georgia was intended as a serif font that would appear elegant but legible when printed on both low-resolution laser printers and higher-resolution print media.
